This year starts with our contribution to Tour de CLARIN - blog post series about CLARIN in particular country. Our introductory post introduces with coordinator of CLARIN Latvia - the Artificial Intelligence Laboratory (aiLab) of the Institute of Mathematics and Computer Science, University of Latvia, and the institutions that expressed interest in the CLARIN research infrastructure. Some language resources developed by researchers of aiLab are also described. The next posts will widen information about CLARIN Latvia, language resources and user involvement event.

The CLARIN Annual Conference is the main annual event for those working on the construction and operation of CLARIN across Europe. CLARIN2018  took place from 8 till 10 October in Pisa, Italy. CLARIN Latvia in this event was represented by participants from the Institute of Mathematics and Computer Science of the University of Latvia (IMCS UL), Riga Stradiņš University (RSU) and Institute of Literature, Folklore and Art of the University of Latvia (ILFA) . Artūrs Znotiņš, researcher of IMCS UL, introduced participants of the conference with nlp-pipe - Latvian NLP tool pipeline (paper of this work is available from CLARIN 2018 proceedings). Aija Kažoka, PhD student from RSU, participated in PhD session with poster about usage of Latvia Seima debate corpus in media studies.
